Karlie Spencer

Speech & Language Pathologist

Karlie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Florida with an undergraduate
degree in Health Sciences. She continued her education at USF receiving a Masters of Science in
Speech Language Pathology. During her time in the master’s program, she worked with children
between the ages of 5 months and 15 years old in a variety of settings. She is experienced in the
areas of expressive and receptive language, articulation, pragmatics, AAC, ASD, literacy, and
Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She has a passion for early intervention language development,
use of multimodal communication, and play-based therapy.

Prior to her graduate studies, she worked for two years as a paraprofessional in a mixed
neurodiverse and neurotypical classroom for children ranging from 3-7 years of age and
participated in the afternoon program for middle/highschool students. Karlie is beyond excited to
be a clinician at AASL and is looking forward to building relationships and making a difference
in the lives of her patients and families.

In her free time, Karlie enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys painting
and doing DIY projects.

What is your favorite food?

Pizza!

What is your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love the chilly weather, spending time with family, and
gift giving!

What is a cool hobby of yours?

I love to paint!

Favorite Halloween costume you wore as a child?

My favorite Halloween costume has to be my first Halloween costume, “Blue” from the T.V. show, “Blue’s Clues”.

What did you want to be “when you grow up”?

I have always loved animals so I wanted to be a veterinarian.

Why did you become a therapist?

I became a speech therapist to make a difference in children’s lives and to help them communicate.

What’s the funniest thing one of your kids has said to you or done during therapy?

When working on production of /l/, one of my kiddos got the placement after telling her to “put her tongue up”
and she said “hey! look! I put my tongue up!”.

Give me one surprising/cool fact about you?

I played competitive and travel volleyball from ages 10-18.

What pets do you have and what are their names? 

No pets yet, but hopefully very soon.

What is your favorite movie and why? 

My favorite movie is Frozen because my niece loved to watch it with me when she was an toddler.

Favorite song? 

My favorite song is currently anything Taylor Swift.

My favorite book is Harry Potter.
