Speech & Language Pathologist

Abby received her Bachelor of Science in Communication Science and Disorders from Florida State University. She graduated from University of Central Florida with a Masters of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology.

Prior to working at AASL, Abby has gained valuable experience working with pediatric populations in outpatient hospital and private practice settings. She is experienced in the evaluation and treatment of children ranging from birth to 18 years old in the areas of expressive and receptive communication, articulation, autism, feeding, fluency, oral motor, voice, pragmatics, and AAC. She has received training in sensory integration techniques to facilitate modulation for increased attention and motivation. Additionally, Abby is passionate about early intervention and play-based therapy. She values the importance of collaboration with parents and other professionals in order to provide children with functional therapy that promotes generalization across all environments.

In her free time, Abby enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, traveling, and going to the beach!

What is your favorite food?
My favorite foods are pizza and tacos!

What is your favorite holiday and why?
My favorite holiday is Christmas! I love the feeling of Christmas time and giving someone a thoughtful gift they wouldn’t have thought to get themselves!

What is a cool hobby of yours?
I have started making homemade pasta! I’m still a beginner though so my pasta-making skills are definitely a work in progress!

Favorite Halloween costume you wore as a child?
My favorite Halloween costume was when I went as Rapunzel. My grandmother handmade the costume and even made a wig from yarn!

What did you want to be “when you grow up”?
I wanted to be an interior designer!

Why did you become a therapist?
I knew from a young age I wanted to work in a profession where I could positively impact children’s lives. I have always been extremely passionate about helping others. Once I found out about speech language pathology during my first semester of college, I knew that was the perfect career for me. Since then, I have never looked back!

What’s the funniest thing one of your kids has said to you or done during therapy?
I was working with a child on answering “why” questions during a session. When asked why he takes a bath, he stated ‘only because my mom makes me.’

Give me one surprising/cool fact about you?
I lived in Tennessee for 7 years and used to have a southern accent! The accent has since faded out, but people notice it from time to time when I say certain words.

What pets do you have and what are their names?
I have an adorable french bulldog named Millie!

What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie is Tangled! I am a big fan of the movie’s music, and I love the message to stand up for yourself and follow your dreams!

Favorite song?
I love Vienna by Billy Joel. It’s a reminder to slow down and take things day by day!

Favorite book?
Glass Castle is currently my favorite book, but I was obsessed with the Junie B. Jones Books growing up!
