More about Mariah…

What is your favorite food? I love brussels sprouts, specifically from Noble Crust or Olivia.

What is my favorite holiday and why? My favorite holiday is probably Thanksgiving for the awesome food (especially mashed potatoes), and because we started hosting a huge Friendsgiving for all of our friends who aren’t local and have moved here, which makes it extra special.

What is a cool hobby of yours? I love to travel! So far, I have been to over 20 countries.

Favorite Halloween costume you wore as a child? I honestly do not remember a lot of costumes, but my mom recently sent me a picture of me as Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, which was adorable.

What did you want to be “when you grow up”? I wanted to be a teacher and help others reach their full potential.

Why did you become a therapist? Both of my siblings required early intervention and various therapy services throughout much of their lives. My brother had minimal functional communication for most of his life, and through him, I learned the value of helping others find their voice. I deeply understand the importance of advocacy and truly listening to families. My goal is for all of my families to feel like I am a therapist who is on their team.

What’s the funniest thing one of your clients has said in a session? During my CF year, one of my students told my boss to cover their mouth after sneezing, which had become one of their scripts. She was beyond shocked and confused, and we both thought it was the funniest thing.

What is one surprising/cool fact about you? I lived in Northern Italy for a year as an exchange student and learned Italian, though, sadly, I’ve forgotten most of it. I would love to relearn the language and use it more frequently.

What pets do you have? I have two black cats (Luna & Stella) and a Shiba Inu (Koa).

What is your favorite movie? Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, probably because I quote that movie more than I should any time of the year.

What is your favorite song? “More Than Yesterday” by Russell Dickerson & Two Friends, because it’s the song that was playing when I got engaged.

What is your favorite book? Something about the Harry Potter series will always be nostalgic for me. I love them all, but The Sorcerer’s Stone will always have a special place in my heart.
